We will have our JH baseball, JH softball and JH Cross Country parent/player/coach meeting on Tuesday July 14th at 6:30 in the high school gym. Baseball and softball will start their first practice dates on July 20th with times to be determined and Cross Country start date and time is to be determined.
HS Volleyball, Soccer and Cross Country parent/player/coach meeting will be Tuesday, August 4th at 6:30 in the high school gym. They will start practice om Monday Aug 10th with times to be determined.
Reminder that students must have a valid athletic physical on file with the school, preferably downloaded on the PowerSchool site where you registered your student for school or turned in to the secretary at the high school office. Also you must have completed the athletic forms on power school that are titled 5th-12th grade athletic forms(please make sure the date is current of this summer and you have your name and the athletes name on the form. The final step is to pay the sports fee, $50 for JH sports and $75 for HS sports which can be done the night of the parent meeting, on the myschoolbucks app-make sure you designate the sport that is being paid for in the drop down menu, or in the high school office to the secretary.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me at ccruthis@lcusd9.org

We will have our high school track, baseball and softball sports recognition night next Tuesday June 2nd at 6:30 in the high school commons. We would like to have as many of our players and family's present as possible. We understand that summer vacations may be going on but with baseball season ending after the last day of school, we wanted to wait until their season was over. Hope everyone has a great summer.

23 student athletes came in from 8-9:30 today and got a great workout in. Very proud of each of them for setting the example of what we will expect from our athletes moving forward. They set the bar today now let's keep moving the bar up! Let's get more athletes tomorrow!

Plyometric and Weight Training starts tomorrow(Tuesday May 26th) from 8-9:30. The program starts at 8:00, this is not an open weight room where you come in when you want between 8-9:30. I am taking off time from my paid summer job to do this for FREE for every student from 8th grade to 12th grade. The program ends at 9:30 so I can go back to work. Hopefully there are so many athletes this week that I have to ask others to help me! We will go every Monday thru Thursday for the summer. This is what athletes who want to get better do in the off season. If you don’t train in the summer, don’t complain about your inability to get better for your next sport season. This is what athletes do at other schools where athletes take their programs seriously. We didn’t invest money and buy some new weight equipment for it to look nice, we bought it to help our athletes train properly to get better, so get up tomorrow morning and have your butt at the school before 8:00 am!

As coaches we are very proud of these 2 girls today. They may not have advanced to the finals on Saturday, but as freshman, this experience is invaluable. 5 of their teammates came up to support them today. This also helped fuel their talks about what they need to do to go up there next year as many of them were very close this year at Sectionals. Danika was nervous as she had a special moment to be the very first athlete at the state finals to start the events with her first jump. That is a lot of pressure for anyone but she fought the nerves and landed 3 qualifying jumps with no scratches. Great job Danika! Aleyda placed 23rd out of 45 runners after coming in ranked 30th out of 45 with a 12.86. 13 spots out of making finals on Saturday. Great job Aleyda! Preparation for next season starts Tuesday in the weight room for weights, plyos and speed work with Coach Cruthis from 8-9:30am. Let's get to work!

Greyhound girls track team had a very good day at the IHSA Sectional meet in Nashville. Aleyda Bennett won the 100m dash and Danika Toth placed 2nd in the long jump which earned them both a spot at the IHSA State Finals Meet next Thursday at Eastern Illinois University! Overall the team placed 6th out of 17 teams with 50 points. Every athlete had a personal or season record in all but 3 events today. That means the girls finished the season as you would hope they would... giving their best effort after almost 3 months of hard work. Great job ladies and coaches! Special Shout out to our foreign exchange student Leonie Boucard who ran her last race tonight in the United States and she set a personal record. Great job Leonie, we will miss you. Also a special shout out to Senior Quameshia Coates who will graduate tomorrow, we will miss you Meshia!
