Busy week for our Greyhounds last week!

HS Soccer went 2-1 for the week with a home loss to Central in PK's 2-1 then 2 good wins, 7-0 over East Alton Wood River and 3-1 over Waterloo Gibault.

HS Volleyball had some competitive matches this week, but just couldn't get over the hump with 3 set losses to Sandoval and Dupo.

HS Cross Country ran in Carbondale and did very well. On the girls side, Addison Durbin placed 18th and medaled with a time of 21:11 which is a new PR for her, Addison Allen placed 45th with a time of 24:30 which is a new PR for her, Keegan Brown placed 51st with a time of 26:49 and Savannah Pontious placed 58th, with a time of 27:53. On the boys side, KaidentWheeler placed 53rd with a time of 19:25, Zander DeMello placed 61st with a time of 20:02, Amjad Adams placed 69th with a time of 20:21 and Nathan Wheeler placed 95th with a time of 25.11.

JH Cross Country also ran at Carbondale with 8th grader Ava Garbe being our only runner as the other runners were not able to make it due to other commitments. Ava had a great race and placed 6th overall out of 117 runners with a time of 12:24 which was a new PR for her. Great job Ava!

JH Baseball had a busy week with 4 straight games and they came out of it going 2-2 for the week and are now 4-9 over all. The young Greyhounds had wins over Sandoval 10-9 and Ramsey 13-11. They lost to New Athens 10-2 and to Okawville 10-0.

JH softball had a solid week going 3-1 with wins of New Athens 11-1, Sandoval 11-0, Highland St Paul 20-8 and their only loss was to undefeated Okawville 7-3.

Keep working hard Greyhounds!

One of many activities in our aftercare program offers an excellent opportunity to create amazing pictures using melting beads. Thanks to the PTO, we always have a supply of these beads. Creativity knows no bounds for both younger and older participants. Additionally, the PTO has supported the purchase of more games and puzzles. This program assists parents who need extra time to pick up their children and provides a fantastic experience by showcasing how different age groups interact inside and outside. We still have open spots available for those who are interested. Thank you to our PTO for the generous donations!

Athletes of the Week for Aug 25-Aug 31

HS Volleyball
Varsity Athlete of the Week:
This week, we are proud to recognize Brilee Davenport for varsity. As a freshman making her first official start, Brilee has shown tremendous effort and determination, especially in the back row. She currently leads the team in aces this season and continues to be a key contributor on the court.

JV Athlete of the Week:
For JV, our athlete of the week is Alexis Emmerich-Tomlin. In her first year with the program, Lexi has done a phenomenal job learning the game and making an impact. Her performance in the back row has been nothing short of dominant, and she continues to grow each week.

HS Soccer
Garrett Cotts
Scored both game winning goals in our 2 tournament wins at Greenville this past week.

JH Baseball athletes of the weeks
This week’s players of the week were selected because of their work ethic, positive attitude, and being a good teammate to everyone around them.

Maverick Wilkins played pretty good defense and picked up a big RBI hit this past week. Although that is important to him and his team, Maverick was selected for a different reason. Maverick works extremely hard and is always a good teammate. Maverick leads by example when it comes to hard work and positivity.

Brody Colon is the other player of the week. Brody has not played baseball in several years and has done a good job this year working hard. Brody is similar to Maverick in that, he brings a good work ethic every day, never complains, and leads by example.

JH Softball
My athlete of the week has to be Hayden Venhaus. This week she pitched against Breese and had 16 STRIKEOUTS!! She broke her record of 15 which she got earlier this year. So happy we will have her another year for Junior High as she is just a 7th grader. Congratulations Hayden!

JH and HS Cross Country
Both coaches wanted to recognize all team members this week for the hard work they put into their first 2 meets last week. HS ran at New Athens last Monday and at Mascoutah this past Saturday with some new team members getting a chance to race in their first race. Addison Allen ran a PR of 24.55 and placed 69th out of 131 runners. Also on the boys side Kaiden Wheeler ran 19.11 & placed 49th out of 165, Zander DeMello ran 20.55 and placed 99th out of 165, Amjad Adams ran 21.42 and placed 108th out of 165 and Nathan Wheeler ran 25:09 and place 150th out of 165! JH ran at home this past Thursday and again at Mascoutah on Saturday. Josie Casperson finished 5th in the varsity race on Thursday and Ava Garbe placed 27th out of 136 runners on Saturday at Mascoutah. Keep working hard everyone.

Thursday Athletic Results:
We held our 1st jh cc meet in 15 years out at Horner Park and it went very well. Lebanon does not have enough runners to count in the team score but it was great to see Ava Garbe, Josie Casperson, David Ruth and Steven Shirley run their 1st race of the year. Josie Casperson, a 5th grader, had quite the 1st race of her junior high career by finishing 5th over all in the girls varsity division. Ava Garbe, an 8th grader, finished 12th and 5th graders Steven Shirley and David Ruth finished 25th and 26th in the varsity race. Good job Greyhounds!

JH Softball knocked of Breese last night 3-0 behind a 1 hit, 16 strikeout performance by 7th grader Hayden Venhaus. The girls move to 8-1 on the season

JH Baseball fell to Breese last night 13-0 which puts them at 2-7 on the season.

HS Soccer lost to Salem 3-0 in the Greenville Tournament which makes them 1-1 on the young season. They will play Saturday at Greenville Tournament vs Pinckneyville at 11:00. Good luck Greyhounds!
