Black History Month fact for February 25: Allensworth is the first all-Black Californian township, founded by Colonel Allen Allensworth in 1908 with the intention to establish a self-sufficient city for Blacks to live without racial prejudice.

Today is Thursday, February 25th, 2021 This day in history:1862 Congress forms US Bureau of Engraving and Printing to print newly issued US paper currency, the United States Notes. Historical figure spotlight: Before her 30th birthday, Mae C. Jemison had received two undergraduate degrees and a medical degree, served two years as a Peace Corps medical officer in West Africa, and was selected to join the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's astronaut training program. Her eight-day space flight aboard the space shuttle Endeavour in 1992 established Jemison as the United States' first female African-American space traveler. Black History Month fact for February 24: Interracial marriage was banned in the US in 1864 and would not be legal until 1967. Whites who broke this law could be enslaved, exiled, or imprisoned.

LEBANON JUNIOR HIGH BOWLING - SEASON INFO F You must have all paperwork, physical and fees paid to practice or bowl Regional (Varsity) team will have practices 2, 4, 9, 11 March All other bowlers have practice 16 and 18 March Season schedule (and full practice schedule) will be released first week of March Bus leaves high school parking lot at 3:00 for practices We leave St. Clair Bowl at 5:05 to come back to school If you have equipment, it may be stored in the high school Other than school athletic fees - bowling is no cost (shoe rental included) You will need a black pair of pants (no strings, yoga pants, or jeans) for matches School approved clothing is OK for practices (no hats) Parents MAY drive you to and/or from practices - HOWEVER I need to know by noon if you will NOT be on the bus For EVERYONE'S SAFETY: If you become ill, DO NOT attend practice or a match until you are cleared by the school nurse! Black History Month fact for February 23: The first licensed African American female pilot was named Bessie Coleman. Coleman earned her international pilot’s license in France and performed thrilling stunts for five years. She refused to perform at events that denied admissions to Blacks.

A group of our LHS students celebrated by raising awareness about the role the National FFA Organization plays in developing agriculture's future leaders and the importance of agricultural education. Ms. Justine Wasser, LHS Agriculture and Horticulture teacher sponsors the FFA Club.

Black History Month Fact for February 22: Before Rosa Parks’ “stand” that started the Montgomery bus boycott, Claudette Colvin had refused to give up her seat on the bus. She was 15 years old when she took her “stand” on March 2, 1955, nine months before Rosa Parks.

Today is Monday, February 22nd, 2021 This day in history:1903 Due to drought, the US side of Niagara Falls ran short of water.   Historical figure spotlight: Sojourner Truth traveled from place to place and spoke out against enslaving people and for women’s rights. Touring the country, she challenged many people’s false beliefs about race and gender. Even though she couldn’t read or write, her thrilling speeches won her the respect of many educated people fighting for the rights of Black people and women. That included President Abraham Lincoln, who met with her at the White House in 1864.   All high school students should have filled out a spring athletics survey in your homeroom class. Please do so if you haven’t already! Sports pictures for current sports have moved to Tuesday, 2/23 from 11-1pm. Make sure to bring your uniform to school!   BOWLING FUNDRAISER! FFA Week this week! Dress up for some fun!

Black History Month Fact for February 19: Fannie Lou Hamer was a civil rights activist and politician. In the 1960’s she worked to register African Americans to vote. Her work led to the passing of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

Food handouts will be taking place today for LHS/LJHS students during the usual times.
