Good Morning Lebanon! Today is Tuesday, February 2nd, 2021 Happy Groundhog’s Day! It derives from the Pennsylvania Dutch superstition that if a groundhog emerging from its burrow on this day sees its shadow due to clear weather, it will retreat to its den and winter will persist for six more weeks; but if it does not see its shadow because of cloudiness, spring will arrive early. Attention: Any high school students interested in participating in Model UN, there will be an informational meeting Tuesday, Feb 9 at 1:05 in the library. Attention Seniors and Parents of Seniors! Greetings LES Parents/Families! It was such a pleasure to have all of the students return today! The teachers and staff were just as excited as the kids to get back to a closer level of normalcy! Since it feels like the first day all over again, I’d like to put some more reminders out there for everyone. Expectations of In-Person vs. Remote Learning If you selected the remote learning route, your student must remain in that learning format at least through the end of the 3rd quarter. When the option is reopened at the end of the quarter, you may reconsider at that time. The same expectation applies for those that selected in-person learning. Your student must attend in-person instruction at least until the end of the 3rd quarter. You may reconsider the option at that juncture. Also, if your student is on the in-person learning roster and will be absent, they will be marked as absent for the day. You cannot tell the school that your child will attend remotely to avoid absences. For the 100% remote learners and the in-person learners that have remote Wednesdays only, we have been experiencing some issues with work completion and absences. I know that initially this school year that teachers would only require completion of a question of the day to count students as present. But I have asked them to begin reporting to the office whether students are logging onto virtual classes/meetings and/or completing and submitting work the next day. If these things are not occurring from your student then absences and late work will begin to be assessed going forward. In addition, I am asking for remote students and families to please be considerate of teachers and their time. If you have been given assignments early in the week, usually the first thing on Monday mornings, let’s not wait until Saturday or Sunday nights to turn in 10-20 assignments. I understand that things happen during the week and some assignments might take longer to complete than others, but I don’t think that way of completing assignments is fair to the teachers, nor does it give them an opportunity to offer your student any productive feedback on the work that they are submitting. Remote learners, please remember that teachers are taking their time to put together hard copy packets for your students and placing them in the front lobby. Those are to be picked up on Wednesdays between 8:00-3:30. Inclement Weather Days Should we experience inclement weather on any given day, the district plans to follow the already established policy in the district handbook. We will communicate that school is cancelled via the listed formats, and the day will be added to the end of the school calendar. Early Dismissal on 02/12/21 On Friday, February 12th, students will be dismissed from school at 11:15 AM. The teachers have a half day institute day. This day was already denoted on the district calendar that is posted on our district website. Students will not be served lunch at school on that day. Car Tag Signs We noticed today that the AM drop-off and PM pick-up processes took a little bit longer than we’ve gotten used to. This slight extension in time was expected as we brought more bodies back into the building on a daily basis. Thank you for your patience as we continue to work out the kinks. If you are a parent/guardian that is/will be regularly picking your student(s) up after school and have not received a car tag sign from us, please contact Ann-Marie in the main office. We will make sure to get one to your student. Walkers Reminder that students that walk to school in the mornings should enter into the back gymnasium doors of the school. They will be temperature scanned before they enter the building. Students that walk home after school is dismissed will be released from the front lobby of the school after all school buses have departed from the front lot. Parents, if you plan to come up to walk with your students after school we ask that you wait outside of the front doors on the building until they are released. Thank you for your attention to these matters. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions in regards to this communication. Have a great day!
