The elementary students are learning about Black History month in the library time with me this week. The younger grades read, “All Because You Matter”, the middle grades read “The ABC’s of Black History” and the 4th and 5th grade were read a poem, shown Black artists graffiti art and either wrote a poem or created their own graffiti art. I have created a Black History wall in the commons and there are trivia questions being asked for a chance to win a DQ gift card for the high school and junior high.

On February 1st, 6th grader, Amy Li created a slide presentation to share with her classmates. Amy taught her peers about her heritage and the celebration of Chinese New Year. Students then enjoyed samplings from Amy's family restaurant here in town, Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant.

Hello. On Friday an Illinois judge ruled on a lawsuit filed by parents across the state that challenged state-mandated COVID-19 mitigations. We have been told that the Attorney General will file an appeal to the new court ruling on Monday morning. Additionally, the court ruling may only pertain to the students listed in the lawsuit. As we wait for clarification and new guidances, we ask for your patience and understanding as Lebanon CUSD9 navigates the latest changes to the COVID-19 guidance and rules for Illinois schools. Since Lebanon was NOT directly involved in the lawsuit, we are in the process of reviewing the judge’s decision and will communicate with you as soon as possible on how this ruling will impact our students and staff members. Until then, I ask for your patience as we review this decision. We will continue with our current in-person mitigation plan until we get specific guidance from IDPH, ISBE and our attorneys. Thank you for your continued support of our students, teachers, and staff. While it has been a difficult year, we will get through this together as soon as possible. Thank you!
Mr. Keeney
