Junior High Athletes of the Week for the week of Sept 8th-Sept 14th Softball Our athletes of the week for softball are Grace Redmond and Korie Schwaegel. Grace #11 is an 8th grader. She has played for 4 years. She has always had a great attitude during practices and games. She is a good role model for the younger girls that are new to the team. Grace mostly plays outfield for us. She does a good job of tracking fly balls and backing up the left side of the field. Grace is a great bunter. When she bunts she advances our players around the bases and does the job she is supposed to do. Grace will be missed next year for JH softball, but I hope she continues to play in high school. Korie Schwaegel is my next athlete of the week. Korie #13 is a 5th grader and has started every game for our JH team. She knows the game of softball very well! Her main position has been first base. Korie is also a pitcher (which I am very thankful for). She is left handed and in JH softball you don't see as many lefties as you do righties on the mound. Korie has 14 RBIs this season so far. She is learning to slap hit and when she gets it, she will be great. Both Grace and Korie show off their great smiles a lot. It makes my job as a coach worth every minute. The JH Lady Greyhounds are 11-5 in the season so far! Regionals are next week. Good luck girls! Baseball Our first player of the week is Masen Davis. Masen was 3-9 with 2RBI, 3 runs, and 2 walks. He also played great defense playing second base, shortstop, and centerfield this week. Masen was not only picked because he performed well on the field, but because of his great attitude and hard work. Those qualities are more important to any coach than any one game performance. Masen is a 5th grader this is a future leader in the making. Garrett Cotts lead the team in hitting this week going 5-12, 3RBI, 2 runs, and numerous stolen bases. Garrett always gives 100% effort on the field and plays the game with great instinct. Garrett had a great defensive week and played second base, shortstop, and third base. Garrett continues to lead by example with his effort on the field. The Greyhounds went 2 and 2 on a busy week that was capped off by a 4-2 victory against All Saints Academy on Saturday morning. Henry Tilk had one of the best pitching performances of the year going to complete game giving up only two runs.

High School Athletes of the Week for Sept 8th-Sept 14th For the volleyball team's athlete of the week. JV: Naomi Krumsieg (MH/RS) (Sophomore) -Naomi was chosen for outstanding positive energy and the growth she's made throughout this season. During our Carlyle tournament Naomi was chosen to come along and play on varsity. Naomi’s performance in the tournament was absolutely excellent. Naomi helped the greyhound out with her excellent blocking skills at the net. She recorded 4 blocks along with a couple touches and 2 kills. -Something that stands out from Naomi is her coachability and her persistent positivity. Even when things aren't going her way Naomi doesn’t crumble from the adversity. She instead tackles it head on with a smile on her face. Coach Kempfer and I are truly proud of the growth and progress she has made thus far this season. We are excited to see what more growth she does as the season continues. Varsity: Addison Durbin (Libero) (Freshmen) -Addison was chosen for her persistent hard work and dedication. This past weekend during the carlyle tournament L.A helped the greyhounds with her excellent pass and digs. L.A always lays her body on the line to make sure that no balls hit the court. She made some impressive one handed saves that kept the greyhounds in some long rallys. Not only did her digs help us out this weekend, but also her serves as well. -Something that stands out from Addison is her positivity and effort. Whenever the team is down Addison is the first one to bring a smile to the team or encourage her teammates from the sideline. Her effort speaks louder than words. There isn't a game yet where you won't see her diving on the court to recover a ball. Soccer Brayson Britsch is the soccer athlete of the week. Brayson scored the winning goal and added an assist in a dominant home win, 8-0 vs Vandalia

On 9/11 the athletic department held a short ceremony remembering those we lost on that tragic day in 2001. Thank you to all who came and helped honor those we lost and the first responders who gave and risked their lives that day and the many days after looking for survivors. We will never forget!
