LCUSD #9 Families,

Good afternoon! This communication is intended to inform students and families of our plan to have students attend school in person tomorrow, Wednesday, January 28.

We are thankful for IDOT and our local road crews, who have worked tirelessly over the past few days treating and clearing area roadways and streets. We are also appreciative of our Maintenance Director, Bryan Reising, and his team for the work they’ve done and will continue to do in the morning to prepare our school grounds for students and staff. Even with these efforts, we understand that not every street, parking lot, and sidewalk in our district is perfect and may not be for several days due to the cold temperatures.

I have spoken with our Transportation Director, Karen Wehrle, who spent today cleaning off and preparing our bus fleet and helping me check routes throughout the district. At this time, we are confident that our buses will be able to complete their routes tomorrow. Some bus stops may still have snow where students typically wait, and temperatures are forecasted to remain extremely cold. We respectfully ask our district families to help supervise their children at bus stops tomorrow and throughout this weather event to ensure they remain safe while waiting for our buses.

If parents choose to drive their students to school, extended drop-off times (without tardies) will be in place at each building. This adjustment should allow families sufficient time to navigate road conditions safely, without concern about students being counted tardy. Please drive extra cautiously tomorrow, especially in busy areas around our schools where students may be walking.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to safely return students to school tomorrow. We’re looking forward to having students back in our buildings!

Educationally yours,

Matt Noyes, Ed.D.
