LCUSD#9 families,
Happy New Year! I hope you enjoyed the holiday season with family and friends. The winter break flew by, and our students and staff have already settled back into the routine of the new semester nicely. We are off to a great start in 2026!
While we certainly hope the worst of the winter weather is behind us in 2025, our plan is to make sure that all students and staff are as prepared as possible for an E-Learning Day each day that they leave school for the remainder of the winter season, especially if wintry precipitation is in the forecast. In the event that we would need to utilize another E-Learning Day, please be reminded of our state-approved plan that is located on the district website and attached here for your convenience.
When/if an E-Learning Day is announced, attendance for that day of school will be taken; however, there will be procedures in place if students miss school due to special circumstances (i.e. lack of internet availability, childcare issues, sickness, or other excused absence). Students and staff will be prepared to follow our E-Learning Plan on any inclement weather E-Learning Days. Please familiarize yourselves with the plan in advance of any inclement weather and reach out to your child’s teacher or principal with any questions. Fingers crossed we will be able to continue attending school in person, but it’s always best to be prepared just in case.
As a reminder, there will be no school on Monday, January 19th in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. A couple of my favorite Dr. King quotes are worth considering and acting on as we celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. King:
“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”
“The time is always right to do what is right.”
I hope that all students, staff, and families will spend some time reflecting on these truths and Dr. King’s efforts towards equality and justice for all.
Finally, I have attached a preview of my January Superintendent’s Report to the Board of Education for families and staff members to see. This is the information that I will be reporting to our board at next Thursday’s meeting. The report includes an overview of some of our district’s top accomplishments during the 2025 calendar year. We have a lot to celebrate and be proud of! Thank you to our staff and students for their hard work during 2025, and thank you to our parents and community members for their unwavering encouragement and support!
I’ll continue sending monthly updates throughout the remainder of the school year to keep you informed about district-wide news, highlights, and important dates. You should also be hearing regularly from your child’s teachers and building principals with more timely and specific updates. As always, if I can ever be of assistance to you or your student, please don’t hesitate to reach out. In the meantime, would you please consider helping our school improvement planning efforts by taking this needs assessment survey?
Enjoy the three-day weekend. Please stay safe and warm!
Go Greyhounds!
Educationally yours,
Matt Noyes, Ed.D.
LCUSD#9 Superintendent
