LCUSD#9 families,
As we approach the end of the second grading period and the semester break, I wanted to provide you with a brief update, as well as some important reminders. We had an outstanding semester in both buildings, filled with learning, fun events, school-spirit, and teamwork! I’m proud of our students and staff for the way they have represented Greyhound Nation this year, and I’m looking forward to seeing the awesome things they will accomplish together in 2026.
It’s hard to believe that we are at the halfway point for the 2025-2026 school year. As you know, we took our first E-Learning Day on December 2nd. Since it was an E-Learning Day, instead of a traditional snow day, our last day of student attendance is still scheduled to be May 21st as of right now. May 22nd - May 29th are listed on our district school calendar as “Emergency Days,” in the event that we would need to call off school more than the 5 days that we are allowed to conduct as E-Learning Days. While this is unlikely, staff, students, and families should plan for the possibility of going beyond May 21st.
In the meantime, our students and staff should be preparing for another E-Learning Day. While the forecast remains unseasonably warm for next week, we need students and staff to take electronic devices home over the winter break just in case things change after the New Year. Last year, we were caught off guard with a winter storm the day before we were supposed to return from break, and there was no way to get students prepared for an E-Learning Day on short notice while away from school on break.
When/if an E-Learning Day is announced, attendance for that day of school will be taken; however, there will be procedures in place if students miss school due to special circumstances (i.e. lack of internet availability, childcare issues, sickness, or other excused absence). Students and staff will be prepared to follow our E-Learning Plan on any inclement weather E-Learning Days. Please familiarize yourselves with the plan in advance of any inclement weather and reach out to your child’s teacher or principal with any questions. Fingers crossed we will be able to safely return on January 5th (teachers) and January 6th (students), but please be prepared over the holiday break just in case.
Finally, I have attached a preview of my December Superintendent’s Report to the Board of Education for families and staff members to see. This is the information that I will be reporting to our board at tonight’s December meeting. In addition to information on the district goals, budget, and our tax levy, families should be reminded of tomorrow’s early dismissal. All LJHS/LHS students will be dismissed at 11:00AM, and all LES students will be dismissed at 11:15AM.
I’ll continue sending monthly updates throughout the remainder of the school year to keep you informed about district-wide news, highlights, and important dates. You should also be hearing regularly from your child’s teachers and building principals with more timely and specific updates. As always, if I can ever be of assistance to you or your student, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Wishing you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Go Greyhounds!
Educationally yours,
Matt Noyes, Ed.D.
LCUSD#9 Superintendent
