Good afternoon LCUSD#9 families,
We are now over halfway through the second quarter of the 25-26 school year. Our students and staff have been working hard, and I am hopeful they will all finish the second quarter strong. Please continue to remind your students of the importance of being at school on time every day and completing the necessary work to learn, grow, and pass their classes.
We only have four (4) school days left between now and Thanksgiving Break, as there will be no school November 26-28. Believe it or not, when we return from Thanksgiving Break it will be December! With that in mind, I wanted to remind families of how the Lebanon School District will deal with inclement weather if/when it occurs in the coming months.
First and foremost, please know that the safety of our staff and students is always at the forefront of our decision making processes, and I will always do my best to inform families as soon as possible when school is canceled. This year, we will once again have up to five (5) E-Learning Days available to use. As a reminder, traditional snow days with no form of student attendance are called “emergency days” and need to be made up at the end of the school year. E-Learning Days, on the other hand, count as school attendance days and do not need to be made up at the end of the school year.
When an E-Learning Day is announced, attendance for that day of school will be taken; however, there will be procedures in place if students miss school due to special circumstances (i.e. lack of internet availability, childcare issues, sickness, or other excused absence). Students and staff will be prepared to follow our E-Learning Plan on any inclement weather E-Learning Days. Please familiarize yourselves with the plan in advance of any inclement weather and reach out to your child’s teacher or principal with any questions.
For the 2025-2026 school year, Lebanon CUSD#9 will plan to conduct E-Learning days on the first five inclement weather days. The Illinois State Board of Education has set a maximum number of five E-Learning Days for a school year, so any inclement weather days beyond the first five will need to be emergency days with no student attendance and added to the end of the school calendar. As of today, our last day of student attendance is on May 21st, but May 22nd-May29th are listed on our district school calendar as “Emergency Days.”
Finally, I have attached a preview of my November Superintendent’s Report to the Board of Education for families and staff members to see. As of right now, this is the information I will be communicating at our November 20th Board of Education meeting. The third slide of my report highlights both our board of education and our education support personnel (ESPs). November 15th was School Board Members Day, and today, November 19th, is ESP Day. Please join me in thanking both groups for their tireless efforts in supporting our students and staff members. We appreciate you and all you do!
