Winter Weather Information

As winter approaches, it is important to prepare for school closings as a result of snow, ice, and sub-zero temperatures. We want to ensure that all necessary individuals are connected and use multiple approaches to share this information.

If possible, we try to make a determination to close school before 9:00 pm the evening before
so families have time to make necessary arrangements. However, weather can change quickly
and with the unpredictability of the definite circumstance, the close of school cannot always be
guaranteed the night before but will be determined by 5:30 am the day of the closing.

The district does have an E-Learning Plan to facilitate a Remote Learning Day, rather than a
snow day. If we plan enough in advance, we would consider a remote option. Please see the
link for our current E-Learning Plan.   E Learning Plan

Safety is always at the forefront of our decision making. It is our belief that having school as
planned is more productive than making the days up at the end of the year. If snow days are
used, instead of remote learning days, then emergency days will be added to extend the school
year. These emergency days are already built into the school year calendar.

This information is shared to help you understand our decision making process and to continue
to be proactive in our continued efforts to educate our students! If you have any additional
questions or concerns, please contact me at any time- aganey@lcusd9.org or (618)537-4611.

Respectfully,

Dr. Amanda Ganey, Superintendent LCUSD 9
